Why it should be added to War Thunder:
The T-72UA1 offers a unique gameplay experience by combining traditional T-72 firepower with significantly improved mobility (thanks to the 5TDFA-1 engine) and modern ‘Nizh’ ERA. Adding it to the British/Japanese tech tree would enhance the African/Commonwealth sub-tree concept (similar to South African vehicles), giving British/Japanese lineups a distinctive, fast Soviet-style MBT option.
Why it fits perfectly in the Japanese tree:
Adding the T-72UA1 to the Japanese tech tree (alongside potential additions like the Oplot, Leopard 2 Ri, and existing Thailand sub-tree assets) would create an incredibly unique and dynamic lineup. Pairing high-mobility Japanese MBTs (like the Type 90 and Type 10) with heavy-hitting Eastern European platforms brings much-needed tactical variety to Japan’s top-tier ground forces. The T-72UA1’s upgraded 5TDFA-1 engine and ‘Nizh’ ERA offer the ideal blend of aggressive pushing power and protection to complement the fast-firing, highly agile local designs.
Why the T-72UA1 is a great fit for the British Tech Tree:
The addition of the T-72UA1 would be an exceptional enhancement to the British ground forces by leveraging the existing Commonwealth and African sub-tree framework (similar to the South African line). Since the T-72UA1 was operated exclusively by the Ethiopian Ground Forces, placing it under Great Britain provides a realistic historical connection while filling a unique gameplay niche.
From a tactical perspective, it brings a fresh dynamic to British top-tier lineups: combining standard Soviet heavy armor and punchy 125mm firepower with the improved mobility of the 1,050 hp 5TDFA-1 engine and advanced ‘Nizh’ ERA protection. This offers British players a rugged, aggressive brawler option that neatly complements their traditional long-range, hull-down Challenger doctrine.
